JS: Shabbat Lunch

TO LEARN, TO VALUE, TO DO!

ללמוד, להעריך, לעשות

We all look forward to Fridays at the Day School because we know that at 11:30 we’ll be gathering for Shabbat Community Lunch. From all over the building, students in first through eighth grade gather to welcome Shabbat in Blum Community Hall. Children sit with their “Shabbat Families” each week as they move through the grades, growing up together.

We greet Shabbat as a school community. Together we sing songs, chant blessings, give tzedaka, learn about the theme of the week, and spend time together developing a sense of Oneg Shabbat--the pleasure of Shabbat - creating special friendships and moments to remember.

Each 'Shabbat Family' is invited to be the head table for Shabbat Community Lunch during the course of the school year. On this occasion, brothers, sisters, moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas, are Invited to join their special person at the head table. As we sing "Shalom Aleichem” we feel like one enormous family welcoming Shabbat together.
