JS: Folk Dance

TO LEARN, TO VALUE, TO DO!

ללמוד, להעריך, לעשות

Folk dance? What's that doing in the Building Blocks of Jewish Learning? Israeli and Jewish folk dancing offers a taste of a rich cultural life that builds a bridge to Israel, and that invites students to have some great Jewish fun in the middle of a regular school day.

This part of Jewish life is experienced from top to toe as students feel the rhythm and flow of the music and the dance.

Beginning in first grade, students take part in Israeli folk dancing, taught by an expert folk dance teacher, once a week for ten weeks. During the course of that time, they learn the movements and choreography of familiar Israeli folk dances and prepare to perform. Students experience this part of Jewish life from top to toe as they feel the rhythm and flow of the music and the dance.

On Yom HaAtzmaut, Israel Independence Day, our field is filled with a dancing student body and with many parents who join in the fun of folk dances of "Yesh Lanu Tayish," "Nigun Atik," "Mayim, Mayim" - and much more!
