Frequently Asked Questions

When is the application deadline?

For the 2008-2009 nursery and junior kindergarten classes, the application due date is December 14, 2007. For grades senior kindergarten through seven, applications are encouraged by February 1, 2008, although we will continue to accept applications if space allows (feel free to call the Office of Admissions - 773.572.1236 - to confirm space availability).

The Office of Admissions holds an Early Childhood Open House each fall. How early can I apply?

You may call the Office of Admissions (773.572.1236) beginning after the start of the school year in September to request an application packet. You will also be able to download the application forms on our Web site. Although we welcome inquiries at any time, applications will only be accepted one year prior to when your child would start school. You may also email Pamela Popeil, Director of Admissions, to request an application packet.

Do you require a parent interview?

Once you have submitted your completed application form and fee, you may call to
schedule a tour and meeting. First-time applicants are strongly encouraged to schedule a tour of the school and meet with admissions staff. These small group meetings are offered at predesignated times from October through January. Please call the Admissions Coordinator at 773.572.1237 to reserve a time.

Aidan Play PartyWhat is a play party?

Nursery and junior kindergarten applicants attend a play party at the Day School. These are comprised of small groups of children at the same age level. The gatherings enable our staff to observe how each child interacts in the group setting, and can provide insights about a young child's readiness for school and potential for success at the Day School. Play parties for Early Childhood applicants will occur between late January and March; they take place in the late morning on weekdays, and last approximately two hours.

Is a play party the only way in which the Day School assesses an applicant to the Early Childhood Program?

A young child's world is comprised of important connections - to family, to teachers, to peers. We strive to learn about these connections by observing applicants within their current school setting whenever possible, talking to the child's teachers as well as getting to know each applicant's family.

Do I need to belong to a synagogue to apply?

Neither affiliation to a synagogue nor practice within a particular movement in Judaism is considered in the admissions process. Our student body represents the full spectrum of Judaism and includes children and families who make choices commensurate with their values and lifestyle.

What if I still have questions?

Please feel free to call the Office of Admissions at 773.572.1236 if you have questions at any point during the application process.
